Perfect Outfit for the Job Interview

Outfitting for an interview is quite a simple yet crucial thing in creating first impression at your probable place of work. It's not just what you wear but that earns you respect with your future employer. Being organized, keeping eye contact, and exuding confidence are key factors for securing a position during the interview. (For more Job Interview tips, have a look on my post JobInterview Tips & Interview Preparation). I've always believed that setting up a great first impression can open gates and produce opportunities you never knew were possible. Whether you are interviewing for the internship or probably starting fresh Career as part of your profession, putting together the excellent outfit can be a necessary ingredient in a recipe intended for success.

Before deciding what clothes to wear, you have to do research about the company you'll be meeting together with. Typically depending on the field, you may make a pretty good guess. Jobs like artistic job are normally more relaxed and casual, while positions in areas like banking demand a more buttoned up, professional appearance. If you are still not sure after your research, It’s better to wear professional dress. Appropriateness is usually a key. If in uncertainty, remember to be conventional and confident.

Most companies typically fall under two different groups of work-wear or outfits:

1. Casual Dress Code.

There are companies that offer their employees to wear casual dresses. Casual attire can be a company's attitude toward their employees. Apple, Google, Adidas and Nike all have very casual, laidback dress codes. Although dressing up for a job interview in a casual office doesn’t mean you can wear whatever you want. Simple tips include avoid shorts, wear jeans, T-shirts, collar T-shirts. Casual offices are typically creative environments so you have little bit of freedom expressing yourself by your outfits. Smart casual outfit includes everything shown below

2. Formal Dress Code.

In your research, if you find that the organization you're interviewing for is conservative environment or buttoned-up then you should follow a professional dress code. For a change, some companies allows their employees to wear casual wear on friday's. You can incorporate some accessories which can add personality to your dress and set you apart from other candidates. Few simple tips include keep your shoes and hairs clean and set, avoid flashy clothes, use of Neck-tie and be confident. Smart Formal includes everything shown below

If there is any uncertainty after the research of the organization then I would recommend you to wear formal dress code. That's the perfect outfit in case of uncertainty.

Importance of Non-Verbal Communication

Importance of Non-Verbal Communication
Whether you are in some sort of gathering or in an interview, the mix of verbal in addition to non-verbal communication ( postures , gestures and body language ) are most important. On numerous occasions we tend to overlook the requirement of transmitting the correct non-verbal signals and wind up conveying inappropriate messages. Employers always look at the candidate’s who have balance between non-verbal in addition to verbal communication in an interview. Certain non verbal signals such as professional looks, hand-shake, confidence, eye contact and overall body gesture are essential in recruitment practice. If a candidate continuously rolls his eyes as well as fidgeting, Interviewer immediately realizes that he or she is lying.

Below are the Non-verbal gestures we should keep in mind in an Interview process:

Non-verbal : The approach with which you exchange cards, your handshake in addition to
eye contact – all create impact within the first few seconds of your interaction with the interviewers. In addition, pay attention about your uniform and accessories since they too send quick non-verbal impulses.

Posture:  In numerous cases recruiter give attention to the candidate’s overall presentation – beginning the moment when they enter work premise to the time he or she leaves the recruiter’s area. Maintaining a right balance in posture is always impressive.

Fidgeting:  Doodling, tapping your feet, touching your hair/ face , drumming your fingers  – all conveys wrong gesture. Instead minimize your body language gestures so your interviewers can give attention to your words and not get distracted because of your non-verbal signals / impulses.

Space: Those who find themselves under-confident tend to shrink within their own systems, reducing the place they use up physically and within the minds of these listeners. In an interview, stay confident in addition to use hand gesture.

If one of the above non-verbal signal requirement is not met, the interviewer starts cross-questioning rounds with all the candidates. Recruiters put candidates in an uncomfortable zone by cross-questioning. This technique helps recruiter to know whether the candidate is right for the position or not.

Weightage between verbal and non-verbal communication varies in several Organizations. It's vital to strike a balance between the two for a thriving or successful communication. Firms are getting extra careful in the selection of the candidate and even after recruiting the employees they are giving training on communication skills to boost up interaction with the client.

Importance of first few seconds in job interview
Job Etiquette

Clothing - You should choose your wardrobe according to your profession and profile. Wearing right type of clothes are always impressive. Include Neck-tie and right pair of shoe to make your looks more professional and formal.

Eye Contact - Eye contact makes a lot of difference. You should look into the eyes of recruiter with right kind of attitude. This shows your confidence and good way of communication with the interviewer. There are instances that maintaining the eye contact with interviewer sometime looks rude but mixing it with your polite way of communication can overcome it and neutralize it.

Greeting - Shaking hands with the interviewer is also an element to create impression on interviewer. If you feel that you should not shake hands then wait for the other person to reach you for hand shaking.

Voice Level – It’s a good idea to communicate with the interviewer in normal voice level at-least for the   interview day. Loud voice doesn't really impress interviewers. Your conversation should be clear and voice level should be moderate.

Attitude - Polite and assertive attitude impresses interviewers. If you finding a way to bring out your assertiveness and confidence then it’s better to communicate with the body language. Be polite and be humble during the conversation with interviewer.
